Do Presidential Elections Affect Markets?

Nope, this is not a political blog posting. This is one of the most talked about comparisons because people tend to like both elections and the markets as discussions for around the water cooler. Why not mix them both together? However, there is no consistent pattern connecting one with the other.

And a lack of a pattern actually makes sense if you think about it. Both politics and the economic environment underpinning the markets change over time. There is no reason either should change on the same schedule.
