When it comes to retirement options about having a mortgage or not, and how to use the equity of a home, many people try to find the “right answer” that fits everyone into the same square box.

Life is rarely cut and dried in many areas, and housing is another area that should be evaluated based on each individual’s circumstances. Often people get themselves into trouble doing something someone else has done without realizing that the circumstances are different enough that the outcomes may be entirely different in the two situations … and then the troubles begin.
